Deforestation of Polish primeval forest illegal according to ECJ expert

In Poland, trees have been felled in Europe's last remaining primeval forest for two years. The Advocate General at the European Court of Justice considers this a violation of European nature conservation law.

Poland is violating EU nature conservation law by clearing trees in the protected Białowieża Forest, according to Advocate General Yves Bot at the European Court of Justice (ECJ). The spread of the bark beetle does not justify the management plan and the clearing in the forest, Bot states in his opinion.
